7 Stunning & Simple Hairstyles for Summer Brides

Hair >

Hot and humid weather rarely play well with hair. But even for brides getting married in the summer, you should never worry about having a bad hair day on your wedding day.
For an effortless, stunning look, try these 7 summer styles on for size.

1. Loose Pinned Curl Updo

Updos are a classic style perfect for the summer, allowing brides to keep their hair out of the way. Erin Blair Gobin of Dallas, Texas-based Erin Blair Makeup & Hair Design, puts a modern spin on the traditional ‘do with soft, bouncy curls, looped into intricate twists to add interest, all with “touchable piece-y texture and loose strands for that perfectly undone look.”

The look works best for medium to long layered hair that’s normal to thick in texture, and can be tweaked to match any venue, from a rustic barn to a elegant ballroom.

2. High, Braided Bun

What could be better for keeping hair at bay than a high bun? While low buns are often more popular for special events, Gobin thinks the high bun deserves a second look — it’s both pretty and practical. She adds soft, curly texture throughout and finishes the bun with a chunky braid to add a modern touch.

The bold ballerina look is best suited for brides with long hair with little to no layers.

3. Gathered ‘V’ Curls

An updo may be more practical in warm weather, but if you’re the bride who wants to show off long hair, consider gathering your curls into a tousled “V” shape.

The style works particularly well with gowns with plunging backs and can be done with curly, wavy, or straight hair. It can also be used with hair combs, individual sprigs of flowers, hair vines, or braids. It’s that “perfect happy medium,” Gobin says, noting that hair is securely pinned in place similar to an updo while still allowing a bride to flaunt long locks.

4. Low, Undone Chignon

It can be a bit more difficult for brides with shorter hair or long bobs to find unique wedding day looks, but with a low, undone chignon bun is beautiful and modern solution.

Short-to-medium-length hair creates the perfect size chignon at the nape of the neck, says Amanda French, hair stylist and makeup artist with Chicago-based iArtBeauty. To make an extra summery statement, consider asking your stylist if they can weave flowers into your look, perhaps using ones similar to those in your bridal bouquet.

5. Waves with Hair Jewelry

For those of us with naturally straight hair, hot weather can actually give hair that extra bit of oomph. Brides with naturally straight or slightly wavy hair will stun with beachy waves says French.

To turn the style from pretty to jaw dropping, add in vine-like hair jewelry woven throughout the waves. Her pro tip: make sure you have your hair jewelry at the time of your bridal trial so you can be sure the blingy look will work with the style you’re envisioning.

6.  Elegant Side Sweep

This elegant look features side-swept hair with pinned big barrel curls and is super on trend with a deep side part, according to Jennifer Grace of Jennifer Grace Stylist based in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“The modern, yet timeless look is perfect for the warm, humid weather because it allows the bride to have an effortless look that keeps all your hair off your neck,” Grace says.

7. Weaved Bun

For a trendy spin on a traditional bun, Grace recommends a style with a deep side part and pieces of hair interlaced throughout the bun to create a weave effect. There’s a soft, natural flair to the look and it goes well with any hair accessory, be it a crystal comb or headpiece. Again, hair is off the bride’s neck and, thanks to bobby pins hidden under the intricate loops, it’s a style that will last all night long.
