How to Use Paper as Trendy Wedding Decor

Flowers & Decor >

When it comes to your wedding aesthetic, it’s the little things that have the most charm and biggest impact, says Heather Driscoll, a Seattle-based party details designer and founder of HeathOriginal.com. “I can’t say it enough – paper details add endless amounts of personality, meaning and style to your wedding, and there are so many ways to do it.”

Colorful paper, craft glue and fun decorations (think ribbons, rubber stamps and jewels) that can be found at local craft or scrapbooking stores are all you need to make your own paper banners, confetti cones, seating charts, table numbers, napkin rings, favor bags, photo booth props, getaway car signs, send-off pennants, chair décor and more.

If you like the concept but don’t have the time to get arts-and-craftsy yourself, Etsy shops offer customizable versions of all these items. Driscoll’s best-sellers include embellished drink stirrers and decorative flags with fun sayings.

Keen on the idea of a keepsake? Consider a paper bunting cake topper personalized with your names, wedding date or a sweet phrase.

If you’re the type of busy bride that still wants to dabble in DIY, try a time-saving package that comes with all the ready-to-assemble pieces you need. “Our photo-props kit (quirky glasses, lips, mustaches, wooden dowels) is a great DIY element to add to any wedding,” says Karen Davis, art director for the Paper Source chain of stationary stores. The paperie also offers kits for paper flowers, butterflies, pinwheels, favor boxes, place cards and more.

Of course, you should probably forgo the paper pompoms or bouquets of paper daisies if you’re having an al fresco event in a city prone to surprise rain – otherwise your nerves could end up feeling paper-thin.
