Find the Right Registry for You

Home & Registry >

Gift giving has long served as a symbol of goodwill for a soon-to-be or newly married couple. In fact, one of the first questions to proceed an engagement announcement is “where are you registered?”

But a wedding is never limited to just one option, and that’s certainly true of registries. However, numerous retailers have loaded their registry programs with discounts and perks for a rewarding registry experience. Here’s a rundown on some of the most popular programs and what they all offer.

Target

To get started, Target offers an online welcome kit that gives couples ideas and inspirations for selecting items for their registry. As couples scroll through the guide they can “favorite” items by clicking the heart icon next to the item and later decide if they want to add the item to their registry. The duo can then create a registry in-store, scanner in hand, or online and receive a Target gift card once they start their registry (minimum 10 items). Couples can also register via the Target apps for Android, iPhone and iPad.

Brides and grooms have 90 days after their wedding to return any duplicate gifts–or ones they changed their minds on–and they also get a special post-wedding shopping day where they receive 10 percent off any items remaining on the registry.

Top items: Calphalon and Giada de Laurentiis for Target cookware, Keurig coffee makers, KitchenAid and Dyson appliances.

Crate & Barrel

Crate and Barrel invites couples to “discover the bells and whistles” of their registry. Various checklists offer guidance to help determine what products are best for a particular couple.

At in-store events called The Wedding Parties, participants will be able to create the perfect registry with a scanner in one hand and a drink in another, reveling in the advice of registry experts. Crate & Barrel’s Wedding & Gift Registry App for iPhone and Android allows couples to manage their registry on the go. Couples also get 10 percent off all registry purchases for six months after the event, furniture included. In addition, any Crate and Barrel gift cards now can be used sister store CB2. (Crate and Barrel’s sister store).

Top items: Think everything kitchen – from cookware to dinnerware to storage items.

Williams-Sonoma

Williams-Sonoma is associated with high-end products. The registry program is no exception. An inspiration book guides couples through choosing the right household items – unique to them, of course – and couples enjoy a slew of perks: registry events, a 10-percent completion discount, bonus gifts when registering for products from leading brands or when guests purchase certain items and private appointments with experts.

Post-wedding, couples are able to use Williams-Sonoma gift cards at Pottery Barn and West Elm, and couples also receive a $10 discount on all cooking classes (until six months after the event).

Top items: There are plenty under $50, such as For, get a Microplane Elite Paddle Grater ($16.95) and the Westbury 5-piece table setting ($35).

Macy’s

Macy’s aim is to make sure everyone is prepared with a fully stocked home before walking down the aisle. Couples can get started by clicking through a registry quiz and guidebook, answering questions in the areas of stemware, luggage and dining, among others. Creating the perfect registry is easy with in-store “Sip and Scan” events. Couples can manage their registry via the Macy’s iPhone and Android apps. Macy’s also has a Registry Star Rewards program where couples can earn Macy’s rewards based on the gifts they receive.

Bed Bath and Beyond

Bed, Bath and Beyond quips, “Relax, we’ve done this before.” With a simple, easy-to-use registry checklist and an online gift guide,  it wastes no time getting a couple prepared for the big day. Going a step further, if a couple persuades a friend to register, they’ll send over a $25 award card. Either way, couples will enjoy bonus gifts just for completing a registry and when registering for the best brands.
