How to Plan a Virtual Bachelorette

Planning >

In the age of social distancing, it’s becoming increasingly common to take wedding festivities and make them virtual – and the bachelorette party is no exception. Plus, it’s a great solution for friends who live across the country, those who can’t take time off work or friends with children.

Planning a virtual event is more than just jumping on FaceTime with your besties, though. So, here are a few ideas and tips to make your virtual bachelorette extra special.

1. Designate a Host

If you’ve been on a large Zoom call before, you know how quickly things can turn chaotic. To keep the party running smoothly, choose a trustworthy friend (perhaps the Maid of Honor) to serve as the master of ceremonies, ensuring you get through all of the planned activities and that everyone has a chance to speak.

2. Choose a Theme

A theme is an easy way to help your virtual bachelorette feel cohesive and extra festive. Feeling fancy? Take some inspiration from the Roaring ‘20s with a Gatsby-style soiree. Want something more low-key? Turn your bachelorette into an old-fashioned sleepover. Dreaming of an island getaway? Bring the beach home with a party inspired by the tropics.

3. Send Party Kits

Help everyone get into the spirit by sending out packages filled with goodies like decorations, party favors and bachelorette-themed accessories (i.e., sashes, tiaras, fanny packs). You can even include customized glasses and mini cocktail kits so everyone can raise a glass to the bride-to-be. It’s also a great way to make everyone feel like they’re a part of something, even when you’re far apart.

4. Order Delivery

You can also treat your bachelorette crew by ordering food to be delivered to their front doors. If you all live in the same area, order from a local favorite. Or, if you’re scattered across the country, have everyone order the same type of cuisine like tacos, sushi or brunch.

5. Do a Group Activity

While you might not be able to hit up a club or bar, you can still make memories by doing a shared activity. Here are a few fun ideas that will work great over Zoom:

• Watch a movie together using Netflix Party, a Google Chrome extension, that synchs everyone’s screens up.

• Relax by creating a DIY at-home spa experience complete with face masks, manicures and pedicures.

• Get competitive by hosting a virtual game night. There are plenty of digital versions of popular games, like Heads Up and Cards Against Humanity.

• Let everyone learn a new skill by hiring a professional to host a virtual class.

• Embrace your inner artist by hosting your own Sip and Paint and letting guests choose an image to recreate on canvas.

6. Send a Group Gift

In addition to a more traditional lingerie shower or other bachelorette gifts, consider making the day extra special for your bride by collaborating on a gift. Maybe that means everyone chipping in on a staycation for the soon-to-be-newlyweds. Or, you can get creative and put together a collection of video messages or handwritten messages from everyone in a journal for a heartfelt keepsake.
