3 Habits You Need to Form Before Saying 'I Do'

Planning >

It's a long journey to the alter – ensure you're on the right track to looking and feeling your best with these healthy pre-wedding habits.

1. Prep Your Skin

Nobody wants problematic skin, especially on your wedding day. Visiting a dermatologist four to six months pre-wedding is your best bet for healthy, glowing skin, according to Dr. Whitney Bowe, a New York City-based dermatologist.

“This gives your doctor ample time to do an evaluation and prescribe any necessary medications or treatments," she says. “It also gives you enough time to see results and stop using any product that you have an adverse reaction to.”

She also suggests drinking plenty of water, washing your face post-workout and adding probiotics to your diet to achieve your brightest, clearest complexion.

2. Communicate Effectively

Emotions can run high with any life change or milestone, and planning a wedding is no exception. Andrea Syrtash, a relationship expert and author of “Cheat on Your Husband (With Your Husband)” (Rodale Books, 2011) recommends engaged couples be pro-active about checking in with each other regularly so all expectations, needs and wants are addressed.

Syrtash also reminds us that arguing isn't always a bad thing.

“Even though feelings are heightened now, you and your partner will be practicing compromise and communication – essential tools you'll need in your marriage,” she explains. “You're learning to compromise through these stresses, and that will be valuable as you build your relationship.”

3. Find a Beauty Regimen

Brazilian blowouts every few months and virgin coconut oil hair masks on a weekly basis will make anyone's hair healthy, shiny and soft, says Julia Atcheson, owner of Las Vegas' SkinRN.

Atcheson, a registered nurse and licensed aesthetician, says every woman should have a good cleanser, a good moisturizer and a hard-working sunscreen. Her must-have products include Mystiq iLuminating Cleanser and Bio Caviar Crème, both made by Lira Clinical, and mineral tinted sunscreen from TiZO.
