I Thee Claim

Wedding News >

Rain on your wedding day isn’t the worst that could happen. Unless, of course, your venue is outdoors.

According to Hartford, Conn.-based Travelers Insurance, 10 percent of its wedding insurance claims in 2011 were weather-related, such as rain making an outdoor venue untenable; snow/ice making a venue inaccessible or tornado/hurricane damage.

The top wedding insurance claims were vendor- and venue-related problems, which accounted for 31 percent of claims in 2011. The most common issues were the vendor or facility going out of business; flowers and photos not being delivered; and DJs not showing up for the event.

Nineteen percent of the claims were related to sickness, injury or mishaps that resulted in family members not being able to attend the wedding.
Vandalism and wedding theft, such as stolen wedding gifts, accounted for 13 percent of claims.

Other problems made up 17 percent of claims. Problems related to attire – such as a dress shop doing out of business –made up 8 percent of claims. Military deployments were responsible for 5 percent. Unavoidable cancellations made up 4 percent of claims.
